Polyurea
What is Polyurea?
Polyurea is a material that allows floors in shopping centres, road surfaces (applied at low temperatures to prevent damage to the asphalt), garages, car parks, tanks and swimming pools to be coated quickly. It offers high resistance to foot traffic and abrasion, and makes substrates completely waterproof, flexible and seamless, with no welded joints. Different types of polyurea, especially compounded formulations, adhere exceptionally well to a range of substrates such as concrete, iron, aluminium and marble. In general, moisture on the substrate has little effect on adhesion.
Polyurea properties
- completely waterproof
- acid resistant
- hydrocarbon resistant
- abrasion resistant
- suitable for vehicle traffic
- very high mechanical strength
- very high elasticity
- for some applications, it can be “loaded” with special additives to make it fire-retardant
- coloured (for tanks, swimming pools and flooring)
- low application thickness
- different hardness levels and properties for specific applications
Products
VAL 1200 is a two-component elastomer system based on amine terminated polyether, amine chain extender and aromatic isocyanates for the protection of metal, concrete, wood surfaces etc.Val 1300 is a 2-component fast set, rapid curing, 100% solid, abrasion resistant material.VAL 1500 is a two-component elastomer spray coating. This product is a zero VOC and provides a monolithic membrane suitable for concrete and metal application with an excellent thermal stability and has a good resistance to water and chemicals.Val 1800 is a flexible 2-component elastomer spray coating. The system is based on ammine terminated polyether, ammine chain extender and aromatic isocyanates is formulated which offers good surface properties and high elongation/flexibility.Val 1900 is a two component elastomer spray coating 55 shore A. It is formulated to offer good surface properties and high flexibility.Val 4000 is a 2-component aliphatic system, 65 shore D, developed as a hand application system but it can also be applied with airless, roller or rubber wiper.Val 52 is a 2-component aliphatic system, 85 shore D, developed as a hand application system.VAL 4000 and Val 52 can also be applied as a topcoat over-pre-applied aromatic polyurea systems.VAL 9000 is a 100% solid two-component polyurea/polyurethane hybrid elastomer formulated to provide high tensile strength and good resistance to humidity.Val 1400 is a two-component elastomer spray coating with rapid hardening and with self-extinguishing characteristics.VAL 1700 is a two-component system, self-leveling, and flexible, based on aromatic isocyanates and special flexible amines. It is designed to fill interior random cracks, control joints or new construction joints on horizontal concrete surfaces.Val 1000 is a two-component based in aromatic isocyanates and some particular amines that give a slower reaction with a longer gel time in order to guarantee more beautiful /flat surfaces and to promote better adhesion.
We have developed bespoke machinery that ensures perfect spraying on all the surfaces listed above.
FAQ - Frequently asked questions
What is polyurea?
It is an elastomeric material used for fast, waterproof, flexible and abrasion-resistant coatings, often applied by spraying.
Where can polyurea be applied?
On floors, in garages, car parks, tanks and swimming pools, on road surfaces, and on substrates such as concrete, iron, aluminium and marble.
What properties does polyurea offer?
Waterproofing, abrasion resistance, good chemical resistance, high elasticity, mechanical strength and a seamless finish.
Can polyurea be coloured?
Yes. It can be coloured, making it suitable for tanks, swimming pools, flooring and aesthetic or functional applications.
Are there different types of polyurea?
Yes. There are pure aromatic polyurea, polyaspartic polyurea and hybrid polyurea formulations, as well as a range of different product formulations.
When should you choose a polyurea coating?
When surfaces need protection, waterproofing, flexibility and resistance to wear, foot traffic or chemicals.
